DESI XS

Learn how DESI MS Imaging has evolved to allow high spatial visualization to the individual cellular level

Towards Single Cell MS Imaging

Thursday, October 10

Session 1
8:00 a.m (BST)
3:00 p.m. (SGT)

Session 2
9:00 a.m (EDT)
2:00 p.m. (BST)

Overview

Join us as we introduce our path to visualize molecules from tissue at single cell resolution using DESI MS imaging, with the commercial DESI XS ionization source coupled to Xevo G3 QToF Mass Spectrometer. This webinar will explain how to easily transition to high resolution MS Imaging with a traditional entry level commercial DESI MS imaging toolkit.

Attend our webinar and learn:

§  Understand high spatial resolution MS Imaging is now accessible to all labs and applications

§  Learn how to access single cell DESI Imaging with the combination of DESI XS and Xevo G3 QToF

§  Leverage both high sensitivity and high speed of acquisition with the Xevo G3 QToF without compromising MS Imaging data quality

§  Learn how to utilize HDI 1.8 Imaging software for microscope mode analysis for effective use of time in MS Imaging experiments

§  Obtain comprehensive and detailed spatial information with limited sample preparation

§  Add MSI analysis into a multi-modal imaging workflow with ease

Dr Joanne Ballantyne
Director, MS Imaging program
Waters Corporation

Dr Joann Ballantyne smiling

Joanne completed a PhD in Mass Spectrometry at UMIST in Manchester 2002, in collaboration with UK Ministry of Defence's Science and Technology Lab (Dstl). This was followed by a post-doc at NIH in Bethesda, USA, working in OMICS for the NIMH. At the end of 2018 Joanne joined the Product Management group with responsibility for the SYNAPT and MS Imaging technologies. After gaining ILM7 accreditation in strategic leadership, Joanne is now Director of the MS Imaging program.

Dr Mark Towers
Principal Scientist
Waters Corporation

Dr Mark Towers smiling

Mark Towers undertook a BSc in Molecular Biology and Genetics, and MSc in Biological Sciences Research at Royal Holloway University of London, followed by a PhD in Bioanalytical chemistry titled Development of applications and techniques for UV-Liquid-MALDI-MS with the University of Reading. Mark joined Waters 14 years ago, dedicated to high resolution mass spectrometry and imaging technologies. Mark’s primary area of focus at Waters has been surface analysis by Desorption Electrospray Ionisation (DESI) and Matrix Assisted Laser Desorption Ionisation (MALDI).
With over 10 years DESI application experience and over 19 years working with MALDI, Mark has worked on several different MSI application examples; principally but not limited to tissue analysis for the detection and distribution mapping of a wide range of endogenous and exogenous molecules (e.g. metabolites, lipids and proteins). Along with his extensive application development work, Mark has also helped design our DESI XS source, SELECT SERIES MALDI source and High-Definition Imaging (HDI) software platform supporting these projects from concept to commercialization.

Dr Jamie Reilly smiling

Dr Jamie Reilly is a Postdoc based in University of Galway, Ireland. He has been working with DESI-MSI for the past year and has been involved in the development of single cell imaging using this platform. Prior to this he did his PhD in regenerative medicine in University of Galway, where he explored the molecular pathways of autism.
